RV Rental for Tulip Time Festival in Hudsonville, MI

Every year, the week Tulip Time kicks off in Holland, my phone starts ringing before I’ve finished my first cup of coffee. It’s always the same situation: someone booked a hotel months out, the rate doubled when they went to confirm, and now they’re looking for a smarter way to stay close to Centennial Park and downtown Holland without fighting for a room or paying peak-season prices for it. An RV rental for Tulip Time Festival solves that — and honestly, after years of delivering rigs across West Michigan for this event, I think it’s the better experience anyway. You’re ten minutes from the parade route, you have your own kitchen and bathroom, and you’re not sprinting through a crowded lobby at checkout.

I’m Niki, your local Fireside RV Rental operator here in Hudsonville, Ottawa County. I deliver and set up RVs for families, couples, and groups all over this area — and Tulip Time is one of the biggest weeks of the year for us. Here’s what I know from doing this on the ground that you won’t find on any booking site.

Why an RV Is the Right Call for Tulip Time Week

Tulip Time runs in early May, and West Michigan weather in early May is genuinely unpredictable — I’ve seen sunny 65-degree parade days and raw, gray 40-degree afternoons in the same week. When you’re based out of an RV at a campground rather than hiking back from a parking garage, that changes the whole equation. You can warm up, change layers, make lunch, and head back out on your own schedule. Nobody’s waiting on a restaurant with a 90-minute wait on Volksparade night.

Holland itself fills up fast. The campgrounds closest to the festival — Holland State Park on Ottawa Beach Road and Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park just outside of town — book weeks out for Tulip Time. If you’re reading this in April, call today. If you’re reading it in February or March, you’re in good shape. I always tell first-timers: nail down your campground site before you call me, because the RV I can often find a solution for — an open site at Holland State Park during peak Tulip Time week is harder.

Where People Actually Camp for Tulip Time

Here are the campgrounds I deliver to most often for this event, with honest notes on each:

  • Holland State Park — The closest option to downtown Holland and the Big Red Lighthouse. Sites here are on the shorter side in some loops, so I match rig length carefully before delivery. I-196 to the US-31 corridor gets you there in about 15 minutes from the festival grounds. Reserve through the Michigan DNR system well in advance — this park fills for Tulip Time faster than almost anywhere in West Michigan.
  • Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park (Holland) — A family-friendly option with full hookups. Good pull-through availability makes my delivery straightforward. Families with kids especially like this one for the amenities. About 15–20 minutes from Centennial Park depending on traffic during festival week.
  • Grand Haven State Park — About 20 minutes north on US-31 from Holland. If Holland State Park is full, this is a legitimate backup and it puts you right on Lake Michigan. The drive up US-31 into Holland for the festival is easy and scenic.
  • Hungry Horse Campground and Drew’s Country Camping — Both are solid options in the greater Holland area for those who want something a bit quieter. I’ve delivered to both and the setups are straightforward.
  • Saugatuck Dunes State Park — About 20 minutes south on Blue Star Highway. Worth knowing: Saugatuck Dunes is primarily day-use; for overnight stays in that direction, Dumont Lake Campground in Allegan County is where I send people.

Check out our RV delivery page to understand how I get your rig set up at whichever site you choose — including what hookup types to confirm with your campground before booking.

How RV Delivery Works for Tulip Time

I deliver the RV to your campsite, level it, get it connected to water and power, walk you through everything, and pick it up when your stay ends. You don’t need to tow anything or hold a CDL. You show up to your site, I’ve already been there, and you’re ready to go.

For Tulip Time, I’m covering the full corridor — from campgrounds right in Holland out through Zeeland, Hudsonville, and into the greater Ottawa and Allegan County area. The I-196 corridor and US-31 are my main delivery routes this time of year. If you’re coming in from Grand Rapids on I-196 West or down from the north on US-131 connecting to M-6, I know those approaches and can talk you through what to expect traffic-wise during festival week.

One thing I’m always upfront about: confirm your site dimensions with the campground before we nail down which RV fits. Some loops at Holland State Park have length and width constraints that rule out larger rigs. Tell me your site number and I’ll tell you what works.

What to Know About Tulip Time Logistics

The festival runs across multiple days in early May with parades, street scrubbing ceremonies, Dutch dancing, and crowds that fill downtown Holland and Centennial Park. Parking near the event is genuinely limited and gets congested fast on parade days. Being based at a campground a short drive away — rather than trying to park downtown each morning — is a real quality-of-life advantage. Several people I’ve set up at Holland State Park over the years just ride their bikes or use the shuttle options into the festival rather than dealing with cars entirely.

Early May in West Michigan also means Lake Michigan wind. I’ve had guests arrive expecting full spring and get surprised by a cold front rolling off the lake. The RV becomes a genuine home base in that situation — somewhere to warm up and regroup between outings. Pack layers regardless.

RV Options for Tulip Time Rentals

I carry travel trailers and other units suited for everything from a couple’s trip to a multi-family group. What’s right for your Tulip Time rental depends on group size, the site you’ve reserved, and how many nights you’re staying. Inclusions — linens, kitchen setup, generators, and other amenities — vary by unit, so contact me directly and I’ll match you to the right rig for your situation rather than guessing from a generic list.

See the current available units on our rental page and reach out so we can talk through what fits your campsite and group.

Frequently Asked Questions — RV Rental for Tulip Time

When should I book my RV rental for Tulip Time Festival?

As early as possible — and before you book the RV, secure your campsite. Holland State Park and Jellystone Holland both fill weeks before the festival for Tulip Time week. Once you have a confirmed site, call me and we’ll lock in the rig. I get a surge of last-minute calls the week of the festival and I can’t always accommodate them.

Do I need to drive or tow the RV myself?

No. I deliver it to your site and pick it up when you’re done. You don’t need towing experience or a special license. That’s the whole point of the delivery model — you just show up to your campsite.

How far is the campground from downtown Holland and the festival?

Holland State Park is roughly 10–15 minutes from Centennial Park and the downtown festival area depending on traffic. Jellystone Holland is similar. Grand Haven State Park is about 20 minutes north. None of these are long drives — the challenge during Tulip Time is parking once you get close, not the distance.

What’s the weather like during Tulip Time in early May?

Variable. I’ve delivered rigs for Tulip Time in genuine spring warmth and in raw, windy lake weather in the same week. Daytime temps typically range from the mid-40s to the low-60s. Mornings and evenings near Lake Michigan can feel colder with the wind. Bring real layers and don’t count on it being warm just because it’s May.

Do you deliver to campgrounds outside Holland for this event?

Yes. I deliver across Ottawa, Kent, and Allegan counties. If you’ve found a site at Hungry Horse, Drew’s Country Camping, Dumont Lake, or even further out toward the Grand Rapids area, reach out and we’ll work out the logistics. I’m based in Hudsonville so most of the West Michigan campground circuit is well within my delivery area.
